So, do you? I bet you do! Here is a possible solution for your bug problem—horticultural oil. Horticultural oil will kill aphids, mites, white-flies, mealy bugs, and scale insects by smothering them. If you have pests other than these soft-bodied insects, check the horticultural oil label. It will also smother fungi, molds, and rusts.
You can see the 1 gallon sprayer that I always keep handy in the garden whenever an infestation is spotted. The dilution rate is 2-4 tablespoons per gallon of water depending on your pest. Often times it is key to spray the undersides of the foliage. We have also carried indoor plants outside for treatment, and let them dry in the shade before returning inside.
Don’t spray plants in direct sunlight or on really hot days, and make sure they are dry before sundown. If a plant can’t be moved, we use alcohol. Diluting 91% alcohol down to 50% with water works well. The orange dispenser is the glasses cleaning sprayer we get from Kaiser.
I encourage you to buy a gallon sprayer and dedicate it for horticultural oil application—it’s just such an easy solution for your bug problems.
